14.04.2017 Lower Yellow River (FL, Santa Rosa Co.)

We refer to the lower Yellow River as the section of the Yellow River that extends from its mouth at Blackwater Bay to the Santa Rosa-Okaloosa County line. Today we boated the very lowest part of the lower Yellow River. Here the water is so acidic that even R. serrulatum thrives. R. austrinum blooms exclusively white to pink. The first yellow-flowered plants appear only when one gets closer to the county line. We know of exactly two such plants so far. But we didn’t go that far upstream today, rather we started at a boat ramp on Ward Basin Road and went up and down various river arms in the delta area.
