23.11.2021 Chipola River near Marianna (FL, Jackson Co.)

Close to the town of Marianna, in northern Florida near the Alabama and Georgia borders, there is a bluff on the Chipola River where R. alabamense and R. austrinum thrive. For R. alabamense, this is probably one of the southernmost occurrences. R. austrinum blooms mostly yellow here, with a few pink specimens. The locality is very small and there are only few specimens growing here. Among other interesting plants there is also a Hamamelis, which is mostly attributed to H. virginiana, but according to Ron Miller is actually R. macrophylla.
