The campus of the University of West Florida is at the northern edge of Pensacola. Around neighboring Thompson Bayou, which flows into the Escambia, there are several hiking trails worth exploring. There are two species of azaleas growing here, R. austrinum in the forest and R. serrulatum at the edge of the Bayou and swamps.
