18.06.2016 Blood Mountain (GA, Lumpkin & Union Co.)

The 1355m high Blood Mountain is located in northern Georgia between Atlanta and the North Carolina border. We started our ascent at Shanty Branch. At Flatrock Gap we reached the Appalachian Trail, which we then followed to the summit. From there we continued a little further toward Slaughter Gap. Along the way there were countless R. cumberlandense to admire. Towards the summit and Slaughter Gap R. arborescens joined us from time to time, so that we also found hybrids of both species (9,2km/5.7M, 570m/1870ft elevation gain and loss).
