The vast grounds of Callaway Gardens are a mixture of landscaped park and wild nature. Here R. prunifolium and R. arborescens “georgianum”, the southern form that blooms in July and August together with R. prunifolium, also thrive naturally. Clearly, the two species hybridize occasionally. There are also R. alabamense and R. colemanii, both of which did not interest us today due to lack of flowers. Some of the rhododendrons in Callaway Gardens occur wild, but others were taken from the surrounding area and planted here.
