Below Anakeesta Ridge, just before the road from Gatlinburg to Newfound Gap leaves the valley floor of Walker Camp Prong and starts winding its way up the mountains, there is vertical naked brown anakeesta rock along the road. It had been laid open by road construction. These rocks at an altitude of about 1340m/4400ft not only represent the lowest habitat of R. smokianum that I know of, but they are at the same time the type locality. In 2015 and 2016 I was there at exactly the same day and I show here pictures from both years.
