Today we walked from the parking lot at Clingmans Dome, with 2026m the highest mountain of the Great Smoky Mountains, the short distance to its summit. This is adorned by a first class monstrosity, a concrete viewing platform with spiral access. Back again we hiked to the lower lying Andrews Bald to admire a beautiful population of R. calendulaceum. R. catawbiense even had a few flowers left.
