The Sandhills of South Carolina lie between the Piedmont, demarcated by the Fall Line, and the coastal plain. The sea once reached into today’s Sandhills, hence all the sand. I have been here before on 3. & 5.5.2019 (see entry there). At that time, however, the winter buds of R. viscosum were still tightly closed and there was no thought of flowers yet. Today, flowering was already over on many plants, while others were in full bloom. Some buds for next year were hairy, others naked.
