Near Milton the Blackwater River flows into Blackwater Bay. About 10km (6.2M) northeast of Milton there is a place along the River where a few plants of R. austrinum grow. However, what makes this place so special is not R. austrinum, the more so as it was quite past peak when I was there. The really interesting thing is a population of Kalmia latifolia growing there. It is not only one of the most southern ones, it also bears very large and beautiful flowers that are so typical for mountain laurels growing in the southeastern lowlands of the U.S. very much unlike the ones from the Appalachian mountains! Additionally there is a beautiful Conradina growing at this place.
