Today’s trip led us by car and not by boat along the Yellow River. We started east of Milton at the lower Yellow River and drove upstream using paved and dirt roads. First we found white to pink flowering R. austrinum as expected. Here we met the highlight of the day, an extremely dark magenta flowered R. austrinum, surely the deepest color that has ever been found. North from the confluence with Shoal River there were only yellow to orange flowered R. austrinum to be seen along the upper Yellow River.
