Peak bloom of R. austrinum was over on today’s visit of the Escambia Delta near Pensacola. There were only few flowering plants left. So it seemed all the more interesting to leave the well known routes and to look for R. serrulatum west from the main river (Escambia Co.). Here are a few short bayous that carry not so much sediment and seem to be more acid than the arms fed by the main stream. We had success along Snake Bayou, but of course the plants were not in bloom at this time of the year.
