Thompson Creek meanders through a more or less flat landscape near the North Carolina border. We visited a site northwest of Chesterfield near Wexford where it had burrowed deep into the landscape and its banks could only be reached by steep bluffs. This site was a typical location for R. minus, which we also found abundantly there along with Kalmia latifolia. It was similar to the many sites of R. minus along the Chattahoochee in Georgia and Alabama and had nothing at all to do with the site at McBee visited immediately before, although both were not far apart. R. minus was found here not only on the steep slopes, but also directly along the road.
